About DAAD Scholarships for Indian Students

DAAD is Germany’s main organisation for supporting international students and researchers. Indian students can apply for master’s, doctoral and research grants through different DAAD programmes.

Public universities in Germany charge very low fees, so the monthly stipend goes mostly towards living costs. Each programme has its own rules and deadline, so choose the right one before you start.

What it covers

  • Monthly stipend (about EUR 934 to 992 for master's students)
  • Health, accident and liability insurance
  • Travel allowance
  • Study and research allowance
  • Support from DAAD during your stay in Germany

Eligibility

  • Bachelor's degree from a recognised Indian university for master's programmes; master's degree for PhD grants
  • Strong academic record (many successful applicants have about 70% or a CGPA around 7.5)
  • English test (IELTS or TOEFL) for English-taught courses, or TestDaF / DSH for German-taught courses
  • Age limits may apply, usually around the mid-30s for master's programmes
  • A clear study plan and admission to a German university or programme
